Last night we had our final dress rehearsal. Other than a large welt on my shin from running into a row of lights after a black-out, things went really rather well! After Tuesday's tech rehearsal, we all felt a bit anxious and defeated. All the performers showed up yesterday afternoon and exchanged stories of sleepless nights and anxiety dreams. Two and a half weeks does not feel like enough time to mount a brand new work! But we spent the afternoon tying up some loose ends and the dress rehearsal went well. I think it may have been the first run we've had where at least one of us didn't have a fit of giggles. (I am the worst for giggling at inopportune times.) So after last night's successful run, we are feeling healthy (knock on wood) and ready for tonight's opening. I must say that the theatre world takes some getting used to. There is no day off between dress and opening as there is in opera. But because this piece is more of a cabaret and less of an opera, it is not vocally difficult, so I have decided to put the idea of vocal fatigue out of my head! I'm looking forward to tonight and to that wonderful thrill that comes only with performance!
